Senior Scientific Officer / Biomass production through the sustainable Recycling of Irrigated Landfill Leachate (BRILL)

Linda has been working in the Biomass Renewables R&D section of AFBI (Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute)  since 2004 and has been involved in many aspects of biomass energy research projects .

Her research areas/ interests include:

  • Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) willow agronomy
  • Evaluation of harvesting and drying techniques for SRC willow
  • SRC willow crop genotype testing
  • Evaluation of willow genotypes best suited to Northern Ireland conditions
  • Nutrient responses for SRC willow
  • Planting strategies to minimise rust damage to willow plants
  • Environmental impacts of growing SRC willow
  • Energy crops combined with phytoremediation and waste management (farm, municipal and landfill leachates)
  • Improving miscanthus yields through agronomy
  • Potential of various materials as a leachate filtration function
